HALLOWEEN IS COMING!

Task 1 – Halloween is coming!

Activity 1.1.- Researching

a) Group experts will investigate about different authors using these resources (or others you can find on the web) to complete the information you need. Here you have an example:

b) Share the information with the rest of members of your team. Then, write a short paragraph about one of the authors. Remember to use past simple, past continuous and connectors of sequence:

• Past simple and/or past continuous
• Connectors of sequence

c) Discuss: Do you know the origin of the following  symbols, facts and traditions?

• Trick or treat
• Jack O’Lantern
• Samhain
• Apple bobbing
• Costumes

d) Now think of any similarities or differences between Halloween and the Andalusian celebration of “Día de los difuntos” and write down your ideas comparing the two festivities.

Activity 1.2.- Decorating our classroom

a) Create a tombstone using cardboard and the paragraph you have written. Here you have an example:

You can also decorate our classroom with Jack O’Lanterns, pumpkins, warlocks, goblins, witches and any other symbols you may think of.

Metodología para grupos cooperativos: grupos de expertos

1.- Se reparte la información a buscar entre los miembros de cada equipo. Mientras que algunas personas se dedicarán a buscar información sobre las personalidades célebres, otras personas buscaran el origen o el significado de símbolos de la fiesta de Halloween.

2.- Se crean equipos de expertos, formados por integrantes de todos los equipos originales que se encargan del mismo tema o personalidad.

3.- Una vez que tengan la información analizada y sintetizada, todo el mundo volverá a sus equipos originales y se compartirá la información. 

4.- Cada integrante escribe un pequeño texto sobre uno de los autores o las autoras que se ha buscado de forma intercambiada.

5.- Cada equipo elige un autor o una autora y se crea su lápida.

Task 2 – Short stories

After preparing our decoration, we will read a short story and will prepare some animations for the storytelling (a comic, draw my life, video, sounds, series of images from the web, etc.).

Activity 2.1.- Reading a story

Each team has to choose a story, read it and answer the questions below.

• The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe
• Morella by Edgar Allan Poe
• The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde (adapted version here)
• Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving
• Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
• Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Metodología para grupos cooperativos: lápices al centro y técnica 1-2-4.

a. Lectura en silencio con la técnica de lápices al centro:

– Lectura en silencio. Bolígrafos en el centro.

– Escriben un resumen de lo que han entendido con bolígrafo azul.

– Comparten persona a persona lo que han entendido para complementar la información con bolígrafo negro.

b. Análisis del texto con la técnica de 1-2-4:

– Primero se hace de manera individual con bolígrafo azul.

– Luego se comparte en parejas o tríos con bolígrafo negro.

– Finalmente se hace una puesta en común en grupos con lápiz.

ACINS y ACIS: Participará en todo el proceso pero tendrá una versión adaptada de la historia, realizará menos preguntas de comprensión, que se facilitará a través de imágenes y tablas que deberá completar con información del texto.

Activity 2.2.- Designing the animation

Each team will decide the style to animate the story (preparing a comic, making a stop motion, with sounds only, a Draw my life creation, etc.).

After the agreement, prepare the animation.

a. Se decide cómo ilustrar la historia (haciendo dibujos a mano o digitales, creando un “stop motion”, sombras chinescas, marionetas, etc.).
b. Se reparte el trabajo y se firma el compromiso de trabajo.
c. Se prepara la animación (quién dibuja, quién decora, quién busca sonidos, quién edita vídeos, etc.)
d. Ensayo del cuentacuentos oral con animación teniendo en cuenta la buena pronunciación.

Activity 3.1.- Let’s celebrate Halloween!

It is time to participate in our Halloween storytelling. Each team will:

• Talk about the author.
• Tell the story using the animation prepared.
